SERV – The Blood Runners Charity

SERV (Service by Emergency Rider Volunteer) which is also known as the Bloodrunners is a Charity that operates to aid and assist the NHS and was set up to supply a quick and reliable means of Transporting Emergency Blood and Blood Products to the hospitals and medical facilities at night.

The members of SERV volunteer their time, bikes and petrol to offer the NHS a free emergency service to transfer blood (primarily) between the hours of 7pm and 6am. This saves the NHS from using an ambulance that can be better used elsewhere, the police that can again be better served elsewhere or an expensive taxi or courier. Members of SERV take turns to be on call 1 evening a fortnight to cover the transportation overnight.

SERV Sussex currently have 4 of their own bikes and 1 car that is also used for transporting as blood. SERV are always looking to raise more funds, as they are a charity they accept donations from persons as well as companies and so if you would like to make a donation please go to the SERV Sussex website and get in contact.

SERV are fortunate in having sponsorship of some vehicles from be local business but this does not cover all vehicles as well as the other costs incured by the service. As SERV is staffed by keen bikers they are often to be found at the counties bike shows and so if you see their stand feel free to see them to find out more information and try and drop a few quid in their box to help support this emergency service.
